I love the feel of real (ie physical) books. I love their smell. I love the way they don't need batteries and don't 'crash'. I love the way that you can fix them yourself (ie with glue when a page falls out) - no need for an expensive technician.
I love the way you can go to thrift/second hand shops and find real book treasures - all those fascinating old finds that aren't available on (eg) Project Guttenberg yet and which are SO EXPENSIVE to buy from other ebook sellers (assuming they're even available as ebooks!). At the moment, I'm browsing several old real book finds, including a history of townplanning in Paris and a classic account of Australia's one coup d'etat. I doubt either are available as ebooks, free or otherwise.
I think it's ridiculous how I'm getting comments from random people saying that it's great how I'm reading an actual book instead of an e-book.
1. Staring at a screen all day is bad for your eyes.
2. I have a habit of writing in my books. I couldn't do that with a Kindle or other electronic reading device.
3. Books have a sense of uniqueness and design that I've found e-books can't imitate.
Absolutely! I can't tell you how offended I am by those Kindle commercials that make the guy who uses the Kindle look all cool and the girl that likes regular old books look like an idiot.
Yes, I do ! I like highlighting my favorite lines. Some people have told me you CAN highlight e-books but...well, I just like looking at my collection of favorite books.on the shelf.
I prefer paperback, but I get what you mean :) I have a room filled with books, and even though I have downloaded some books on my iPad, I have yet to read them. I will always buy books, because I love having a room filled with them!
I cannot stand ebooks. They tend to be too difficult for me to concentrate on and they make my eyes hurt after like five minutes. Plus they don't have the wonderful smell that real books have ^_^
I always get comments from friends saying I'd be better off and more technologically advanced with a kindle/nook/eReader, and I always say yeah and I'd be broke too. I don't understand why anyone would pay $200+ for the device then pay for the book too when you can buy a book for $10-$50 and save yourself at least $150.
Not to mention you're quickly destroying your eyes with an eReader.
I don't and Do. I love how my amazon Kindle can go for ever with out needing a charge, its so easy to get the book you want with a click.! So you dont have to go to the store and pray that they have it, but they prolly wont if it just came out. I have tons and tons and tons of books, and i love them don't get me wrong but the pages will wear and stuff and you'll always have your kindle if you keep care of it.
1. The amazon Kindle looks just like a book with that print so your eyes wont hurt.
2. Its a lot cheaper compared to buying a hard cover.
3. There so much lighter so when you go to bed you don't have a huge book in your hand!
I love my Kindle!
I'll always love reading books, I remember one Christmas my sister got a e-book she hated it cause it wasn't an actual book (even though she doesn't read often)
