Incarceron by Catherine Fisher (about a fantasy Prison, a horrible place, where nobody has entered or left for centuries, and four misfits try to Escape with the help of a girl, who is the Warden's daughter, and her tutor from Outside the Prison. But the Outside, where Time is forbidden, is just as troubled as Inside the Prison, except the troubles Outside are sugarcoated. Escape is extremely difficult, or even impossible, because the Prison is alive)

Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffery (about a fantasy world where dragons and humans are companions, and together they must face Thread, which falls from the sky and consumes all organic material and all living things. There are so many books in this series, and there are mini series all in this one series)

Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman (about a fantasy underground world, where those who have fallen through the cracks of society - runaways, homeless, outcasts, mythical creatures - dwell. A normal young man is dragged in after helping an injured girl, who can create doors anywhere she wants, leading to anywhere she wants. This girl is being pursued by two murderers/monsters, who have murdered her family)

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (about the future, where a cruel government, the Capitol, forces each of the twelve Districts of North America to send one teenage girl and one teenage boy into an arena to fight to the death in the cruel and sadistic Hunger Games, which are aired every year for the entertainment of the Capitol and the punishment of the Districts for a rebellion that failed decades back. Two contestants fall in love, and revolution is bound to occur)

Uglies by Scott Westerfeld (about a futuristic society where you are considered Ugly until, at age 16, people are turned into Pretties. The government, aka Specials, brainwash people into believing that becoming Pretty is all that matters to control society, but there are a group of rebels. When one girl's best friend joins the rebels, she is blackmailed into making a choice; betray her best friend or never be Pretty, which would mean her entire life would be miserable, but then she finds out the ugly truth about her society)

A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray (about four girls in the Victorian Era who can access a Realm where magic and wonderful things occur, but it is more dangerous than it first appears)
