If you haven't read the Lord of the Rings books yet, they're pretty similar and I liked them a lot. (:

Also, try the author Anne McCaffrey. She does a lot of dragony books. I personally haven't been able to get that in to them, buuuuut a lot of people like them and they are similar to Eragon so check them out. (:

The Golden Compass books are similar to the Lightning Thief series. Those are the ones that are set in a sort of past/alternate universe thing with the girl that goes on this whole long adventure to save the world. Sounds familiar, right?

And honestly, read Narnia too. The movies were shit but I adored the books. They're sort of similar to the Lightning Thief books.

I've also heard good things about some Garth Nix books, but I've never actually gotten around to reading them. I know he has some good fantasy stuff though.
