Try Dean Koontz books. His books are all mystery and suspense.

Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz and the other Odd Thomas Books which come after it. I know it sounds REALLY supid and geeky but Dean Koontz makes even the stupidest plots into something great and he makes his characters so real youll love them! Odd Thomas is a sarcastic, sensitive, (mainly) normal, and hilarious fry cook in the desert who can see the dead and he sometimes helps them to move on from this world. They cant speak to him, but they can touch him and polterguists (sp?) can act on objects and injure the living. In the first Odd Thomas book, he tries to figure out why the malicious spirits known to him as bodachs are swarming Pico Mundo, the small desert town he lives in. He and his girlfriend Stormy Lewlynn try to get to the bottom of the mysterious appearances before a great disaster happens and hundreds lose their lives.

You should read deadly little secrets or City of bones, they both fit the discription you want or you should read the blue is for nightmares series.

uh crap i know a rly good book that is like a game of clue but i 4got the name of it and i cant remember the name of the author so as soon as i remember i will edit this answer but hear is one book i do know that could work its "Meagan's Island"

If you want mystery, I'd recommend Sherlock Holmes. He's a detective and a genius. Classic mystery series.
