If you check out HQN's Silhouette Nocturne books (link), there are a whole host of paranormal romances that don't involve vampires...including my series about ancient Greek Myths. In fact, if you check out the left hand side, you'll see that you can pick your category of fantasy, and exclude vampires.

i absolutely ADORE the books Graceling and Fire by Kristin Cashore. they are so imaginative and i promise you won't be able to put them down! there is also the author Maria V Snyder who has 2 really good series out. the first is the Study series which is abouta young woman, Yelena, who is on death row but is given the choice execution or becoming the poison taster for the ruler of Ixia. it's a great series and i promise, you'll fall in love with the lead characters! the other series by her is the Glass series which should be read after the Study series as many of the characters and plot-line-references bleed into it. this one is about a glass magician who is trying to come to terms with her power. and of course, the romance, while not the full focus of the story, adds to these beautifully written stories.
