One of my all-time favorites. Good choice. If you like it, join the spot for it here on Fanpop. And listen to Poe, Danielewski's sister, who makes fabulous music, a lot of which is related to House of Leaves.

what is house of leaves about???

It's kind of hard to explain but I'll try. The main part of the book is a quasi-academic work deconstructing a documentary about a very strange house that seems to be alive (and somewhat evil) that was filmed by a family that moved in and was destroyed by it. But then there is a second storyline taking place in the footnotes which is a first-person narrative of a young tattoo artist who finished the book after the old man who wrote it mysteriously died and now seems to be haunted by some unseen monster not entirely dissimilar to the one in the documentary. And then, on top of all that, the book is written in an experimental style where the format of the chapters matches the content. For instance, the chapter about mazes is quite literally a labyrinth.

I'm reading 'The Angel's Game' by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. It's a really fantastic book, seriously A REALLY, REALLY AMAZING BOOK!

Blurb: In an abandoned mansion in the heart of Barcelona, a young man, David Martin, makes his living by writing sensationalist novels under a pseudonym. The survivor of a troubled childhood, he spends his nights spinning baroque tales about the city's underworld. But perhaps his dark imaginings are not as strange as they seem, for in a locked room deep within the house lie photographs and letters hinting at an unsolved mystery.

Like a slow poision, the history of the place and an impossible love bring David close to despair. But then he recieves a letter from a reclusive French editor who makes him the offer of a lifetime. He is to write a book like any other - a book to change hearts and minds. In return, he will recieve a fortune, perhaps more. But as David begins the work, he realises there is a connection between this haunting book and the shadows that surround his home...

Wit, style, great sex and a hugely entertaining read. The Angel's Game is a must-have.

Liar by Justine Larbalestier

Amazon blurb: Micah will freely admit that she’s a compulsive liar, but that may be the one honest thing she’ll ever tell you. Over the years she’s duped her classmates, her teachers, and even her parents, and she’s always managed to stay one step ahead of her lies. That is, until her boyfriend dies under brutal circumstances and her dishonesty begins to catch up with her. But is it possible to tell the truth when lying comes as naturally as breathing? Taking readers deep into the psyche of a young woman who will say just about anything to convince them—and herself—that she’s finally come clean, Liar is a bone-chilling thriller that will have readers see-sawing between truths and lies right up to the end. Honestly.
