California Milpitas to Stanford Commute- Insanity? Decide here!

My family will be relocating to the area for a new training physician position at Stanford. My wife and I are currently looking around the area with a preference for an apt rental in a somewhat sleepy, more suburban area and thought we had stumbled across some good apt communities in Milpitas that was within our price range for what google maps indicated was about a 30 minute commute. Of course the leasing consultant at the apt building found out I was a doctor working to Stanford and all but laughed at our quaint idea that I might be able to commute from there, quoting a >60 min commute time almost regardless of when we made the trip, which took us 25 minutes at 10 AM and 3 PM (location we were at was Dixon Landing Rd right off of I-880).

Just wondering if the posters here feel this is accurate or if she was just blowing me off. Hospital hours are early, so most days I would probably begin my commute between 6-6:30 AM and probably leave from work around 5 most afternoons.
