Death Note Question

Do you think the Shinigami in Death Note were once human?

I think that maybe the shinigami were once humans who used the death note. Maybe when Ryuk said that notebook users couldn't go to heaven or hell, that's what he meant.
Allot of the shinigami (except maybe Nu and the shinigami king) have kind of a humanoid appearance. They all talk and act human too. Allot of them like human food, like apples, chocolate, and blueberries.
When Rem talks about how eating is unnescesary, she says it like shinigmai have EVOLVED so that they don't need food. Some animals still have organs (like the appendix in humans) that used to be neccesary but now just take up space in the body.
All the shinigami seem to express milaise and boredom, but if they had never lived anywhere else, that might not happen.

I'm just saying maybe, Ryuk, Rem, Gelus, and all those other shinigami were human once. Maybe Armo Justin was even some kind of king.

I like your point. It's true that they look pretty humanoidal, maybe they really are corrupted humans?

That would mean Light will become Shinigami. Misa, too. And many, many more people... Looks like material for a sequel? ^^

True. They must be the product of when death notes were dropped in the human world. And maybe allot of them went the way of Gelus and that's why there aren'y more. It would be a neat sequel ,especially if Mikami, Light, and Misa were haunted by old memories.

It would make sense if you r killed by a shinigami while being the owner of a death note, you would become a shinigami

I think they were humans, and then they died, but remained on earth to pass on their old deathnotes to a worthy human, who will end up dying and the cycle begins all over again
