A smile spread on my lips. Mom came to give me yet another hug, I hugged her back. Then she took the ring put it in the box, and set it aside. “For later, you still have more presents to open.” She went back to the table and brought forth another red box, a little bigger this time.
“From me.” Dad said as he stood besides the table, just looking at us. Mom handed me the box, and waited. This time I didn’t disappoint her, I quickly tore the paper off. There was another black box. Jewelry again? When I opened it there was a gold pocket watch surrounded by black silk.
“Thanks, again.” I told dad. I hated that they wasted money on me. All I needed was love, and I could get by. Dad just looked at me, as if reading my mind.
“Edward I…” He started.
“I love it.” I reassured him trying to make my face interested. Mom just looked at us, and then turned towards the table again.
“Cake Time!” She yelled putting her hands strait up. I looked at Dad and grinned, he grinned back showing his perfect white teeth. The cake was magnificent. It was two stories, covered in white frosting. Mom made the best cakes, nobody could ever compete with her. She handed me the knife.
“Would you do the honors?” She asked, her eyes glistening.
“Of course.” I told her taking the knife in my own hands. She left into the kitchen to get plates. I waited for her until I finally cut the cake, making sure not to destroy the beauty.
“Edward.” She said eyeing me, “Don’t worry about destroying it. Just cut the cake.” I looked at her, and then went back to cutting the cake, at the same speed I had been doing before. She sighed next to me.
“Fine.” I told her as I handed her a slice. She quickly put it on a plate and handed it to Dad. Then I gave her another, this one she kept. I cut one more piece, for me. We all sat around the table, just eating. The cake was delicious, all creamy. Mom set her plate down, she was finished, she looked at me then got up. She cam e all the way around the table and stopped besides my chair.
“Wanna dance.” She asked. I looked at her outstretched hand and then looked at her face. Her eyes were shimmering, her smile wider than before.
“There’s no music?”
“Edward, music is everywhere, you just need to find it. The world is nothing without music, it’s the core of all happiness. Now, lets go find your happiness.” She took my hand, and we headed into the living room. We danced, even though there was no music. After a couple of minutes, there was a tap on my shoulder.
“May I cut in?” Dad asked. I gave him moms hand, and went to go sit down. I loved to see them dance, they danced like nobody I knew. Two swans in a lake. Moms eyes were filled with love as she stared up at Dads face. His eyes a mirror of hers. He grinned every time she did, and then mom would blush. They were truly in love. My final birthday wish, that someday I would find someone and feel the same way that Mom and Dad felt right now. Deeply in love, every second of their life. But was there someone like that out there for me. I didn’t know.
