How do you tag someone in your status?

I'm so confused. I need to put a status on Facebook, but I need to tag someone in it. Can someone please help?

It used to be that you had to type the "at sign" (@) followed by the person's name in a status update window, and then Facebook would present you a list of friends from your friends list as a pull-down. You'd then select the name you wanted and it would appear in your status update as a hyperlink to that user's profile (and tag).

This week, however, Facebook launched a new version of the tagging feature, so that it attempts to recognize when you are typing a friend's name WITHOUT entering the @ first. So now you'll get that drop-down menu of friends when you're typing. This makes it much easier to add tags to your status update, whether you want to add a tag or not.
