This is kinda stupid but...I want a fanfiction.net and don't know what to put for my pen name. Do I put my real name or a username? Please help........
NEVER put your real name. ALWAYS use a nickname/pseudo. For a very simple reason :
I don't know how old you are but know that if you put your real name, it shall remain on the net. And once you're old enough to seek a job, recruiters google your name. If they stumble on your FF.net stuff, they may think you are strange/weird/unsuitable for the job. I mean, you may write whatever you want, the way you want, but be careful as some people may not understand that hobby of yours.
That's what I do as I do not want any employer to find out what I write (mature, steamy, adult, violent stuff) - they would think I'm mental.
So be careful. Very careful. That's the advice I give to all youngsters that venture on the net. You shall leave traces on the net so hide them well.

Not to mention that people you don't know offline can search you up.
For sure they will. And at the proper time, they can get the thing out and have it out in the open for everyone to see. The same goes for pics. That's why I'm on the net with pseudos and will never join the likes of Facebook.
I wanted to add that it's better to choose a pseudo that can fit all fanfic writing, because we can change in tastes, but not the account (well, that's more difficult).
It can be anything you want. Mine is my Fanpop name, but I've seen people with totally different ones or even their real names. It can be whatever you want.
As for your question about making account with fanfiction.net Once after you put your information,you can makeup any pen name you want to,it don't have to be your name unless that's what you want.I been with them since 2005 and I just made up my own pen name.I weither make up a pen name instead of using my name because it makes it more fun! My pen name is PocahontasJohnSmithForever,yeah it's long but that's what I like.I was thinking of changing my pen name here recentaly but since I made some friends there and they already know me by that pen name, I decied not to.I just didn't want to get anybody confused by changing my pen name and saying in messages of what my old pen name was. I might change my mind later but for now it's gonna stay the same.And yes you can change you pen name any time you want to as it well under your settings once you sign up. You can even add a avatar which is just little picture by your pen name. Anyways I hope this helps!
Your welcome! And yeah my pen name is long! Anyways my reason for my pen name is because I'm big fan of Disney movie Pocahontas and Pocahontas and John Smith are most favorite charcters! Of course since Tangled came out I'm more nuts about it but I still love Pocahontas.I would change my pen name to fit both my favorites but since I had this so long and people already know me by that pen name.It would get confusing to them if decied to change it.
It can be anything you want it to be, like what you're a fan of, maybe add a little fanfiction to it, unless someone has already taken it, but be careful. You can even change it if you don't like it once you're done. Simple as that.
