Gossip Girl Question

I've just finished watching Season 1 and I got one question about Chuck.

I thought Chuck finally tried to pursue his love for Blair but why in the end he decided not to go with Blair but to flirt around like how he used to be?
Is it something to do with what his dad told him, like 'Loving someone will change you'?
Or is it because he actually didn't love Blair in the first place?
Would appreciate if you can tell me but please don't put any spoiler cuz I haven't started Season 2.
