That's not entirely true. Numerous spoiler sources hinted at NS in the finale, but from what I've heard it was decided to hold off on the NS storyline. Trust me, NS WILL get their shot at being together. Josh Schwartz has said that it's obvious that Nate is in love with Serena, and both Chace & Blake have made numerous comments about their characters having feelings for each other.
I haven't seen ANY NS spoilers for S3.
Plus it's already been confirmed that Nate will have a new girlfriend

Well, now we are on season 3. We see that Nate has feelings for Serena, but she chose Trip. Now, she broke up with Trip, and when he wanted to see her in the hospital, Nate said to him to stay away from her. Then he went to see Serena. So maybe, there will be something. Fingers crossed. I can't wait for the next episode, but it's so far away :(
