Blake Lively comes from a family of actors and she had films prior to Gossip Girl so we cannot give the full credit to Gossip Girl for making her known, while Leighton Meester got her break from the show. She's had only guest appearances form other shows and have been to some low budget films but Gossip Girl took her to the next level.

sorchy101, actually alot of people prefer Leighton to Blake actually =]. Maybe a year ago, I would have said Blake, cuz of sisterhood, but as of late, i rekon Leighton is getting more and more famous. She was in 'good girls go bad' and that has been a very popular hit. In australia it got in the top 5! And, with sisterhood, the second movie wasnt even released in australia because it went that bad in america... not to mention leighton is going to be in a movie with Steve Carell. Which looks hilaous! So like a year ago, it looked like Blake would hav been the household name, but Leighton has stolen the spotlight!

I picked Blair since she's one of the show's most "high profile" characters and even though a few of them are famous, none of the cast are household names. A household name is someone everyone has heard of even if they have never seen any of their work but there are many people who have no idea who Chace, Ed, Leghton, Taylor Penn and even Blake despite the fact that she gets the most press, are.

Blake was not famous before Gossip Girl. She was an unknown actress whose biggest role was in the Sisterhood the the Travelling Pants. The only people who would have known who she was other than fans of the family members of her's who are actors/actresses, are people who watched the movie.
