A double standard is when certain rules only aply for a certain group of people but not for another.
For example: A dad doesn't allow his daughter to stay out late, but it's okay if the son does it.

And I think Gossip Girl judges it's female-characters differnt than it's male ones A LOT.
Same goes for the Uper East Siders and the people from Brookyn.

Those kind of double standards have nothing to do with the show itself, it's just realistic. Females get judged a lot more harshly for things then males do, and I don't have first hand experience, but I'm guessing real UESers judge people from Brooklyn. That's just how it works.

^ Ditto!

This is a TV show, its not their job to make sure everyone gets equal treatment, it's their job to entertain us.

Oh yes it's a toal double standard, well it is a story of the rich, Manhattan elite and the not so's wanna be's who are trrying to be or look like they're on top too. But it's very cool how Dan is teaching "S" things about life and sometimes I think she's actually getting bit's and peices of it.
