Internet Opinions Obama's excuse....

This was an e-mail sent to me about a couple weeks ago:

"I sure hope this gets around before November.

On Sat, 22 Mar 2008 18:48:04 -0400, 'LTG Bill Ginn' USAF ret forwarded:

Hot on the heels of his explanation for why he no longer wears a flag pin,
presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama was forced to explain why he
doesn't follow protocol when the National Anthem is played.

According to the United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171, During
rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present
except those in uniform are expected to stand at attention facing the flag
with the right hand over the heart.

'As I've said about the flag pin, I don't want to be perceived as taking
sides,' Obama said. 'There are a lot of people in the world to whom the
American flag is a symbol of oppression. And the anthem itself conveys a
war-like
message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all. It should be swapped
for something less parochial and less bellicose. I like the song 'I'd
Like to
Teach the World to Sing.' If that were our anthem, then I might salute it.'

WHAAAAAAAT!!!!!!!!!! Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this could possibly be our
next president. I, for once, am speechless."

Speechless in a bad way? What he's saying seems perfectly logical to me.

What is wrong with that? The american flag is seen as a symbol of oppression.

MissKnowItAll......it is a symbol of oppression all right...to a Socialist or Communist! You are either Pro-American, or, like Obama, Anti-America!

^ Well, I am a Socialist.

To quote Obi-Wan Kenobi:' Only a sith lord deals in absolutes'.

I am in no way insinuating that you are like a sith lord, but it's something to ponder.

**LOL** Bringing Science Fiction into this? C'mon now, there's nothing in this for science fiction. Well, I suppose I can leave you to your little world of fiction; and I will be praying for you. Good luck in your fantasy world. I am sticking to the real world. I've got a life to live.

I meant that it is bad to say you are either pro-america or anti-america. They are absolutes. I'm not bringing science-fiction into this, it was a quote. If someone quotes shakespeare in a conversation, they are not living in a world of fiction.

Please don't pray for me, I don't need that. I think I'm more in the real world than you, because it seems you make up crap every single day about Obama.

Goodbye. I've got a life to live.

MajorDork74: About your flag. It is not, in fact, a symbol of freedom, as you seem to think (judging from other comments generally around Fanpop) . It is a symbol of opression. This is America. Your country was built on the opression, and denial of freedoms, of an entire nation (the Native Americans). And, in WWII, when millions of freedoms were opressed, America did nothing until they themselves were attacked. Granted, other countries did in on the terms of a treaty, but still. At least they did something.

So, basically, your flag IS a symbol of opression.
