Before I explain the reasons for my choice, I feel the need to answer the question that Rochester himself placed before us, his audience! And the answer to that is I DO!!!!!!!!!!! Not only I DO like you, but also I LOOOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now straight to the point! Although Rochester appeared to be the personification of all the vices of his time, he actually satirized and critisized the frivolity, the luck of life-purpose and the carnality of his contemporary! Although he appeared to have betrayed and humiliated his king, when the time came to defend the sanctity of God-sent power, lineage and birth-right, he stepped up! He did the right thing in critical times, when it really mattered!!!!!!!! He was a revolutionary and in the same time very traditional! He risked his privileges to speak his mind! At least in this movie and with Johnnie Depp impersonating him, he came through as a martyr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And also I pick him to make up for the fact that this insensitive and ingrate actress, Lizzie Barry, didn't! No,their debt wasn't settled, as much as she wanted to believe so! Yes, she still owed him her success and no, he didn't owe her finding life itself! He found life loving her, something to which she didn't correspond, so he did it all by himself, she didn't participate! I know that some people don't need to offer to someone in particular, by their simple presence and personality they inspire and guide others! But was that her case??? Come on!!! She couldn't even act before him! So, no honey, we owe for life to the people who really loved us, either we want it or not!!!!!!!

If I were Lizzie, I would have realized that I pursued so passionately communicating feelings in theatre, because I had nobody to offer them in real life and now, that I had finally found Johnny Wilmot, theatre wasn't this important! I would have taken care of him by his bedside till his last breath, me, not his wife that he didn't love, and - sure as hell ! - I wouldn't have kept his child from him during his last days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
