The following is quoted from tampabay.com......
So far, Gwen Stefani hasn't taken Hayley Williams out for ice cream. Or shared her secrets of the music industry. Or helped Williams start a clothing line.
"The tour has just barely started," Williams said by e-mail recently. "No one is really in hang mode yet. Once we get in the groove of things I'm sure there will be more talks and hang sessions."
That would make sense. Because as the singers of one of the most popular female-fronted rock groups of the past 20 years (No Doubt) and one of the most popular female-fronted rock groups of, well, today (Paramore), Stefani and Williams would probably have plenty to talk about.
Paramore has enjoyed No Doubt-like success over the past two years. The four-piece outfit from Franklin, Tenn., scored big in 2007 with the platinum-selling Riot!, which spawned the hit singles Misery Business, Crushcrushcrush and That's What You Get, and led to a Best New Artist Grammy nomination.
Paramore is preparing a new album for release in September, and has been playing some new songs on this tour. "Our fans seem to like them," Williams said, "which is an awesome sign."
Tbt* recently swapped e-mails with Williams to get her thoughts on the No Doubt tour, not to mention Paramore's early shows in Florida and the weirdest thing she's ever Tweeted.
I remember Paramore playing smaller shows in Tampa and St. Pete years ago. What do you remember about your early shows in Florida?
I was really nervous. Back then we were playing acoustic because Jeremy (Davis) quit and we had no bass player. So I would play rhythm guitar to fill out the sound. I never like playing guitar on stage ... I'd much rather be running around and acting a fool. So, that aspect of it always made me a little anxious. The shows were great though. I think back on them a lot. They were intimate and a lot of fun.
I see you've joined the Twitter brigade. What's the weirdest thing you've Tweeted?
"okay. he's touching the bear poop. with finesse. now i'm pissed". I was tweeting about the Grizzly Man movie that Jeremy and I watched on the bus.
Were you fans of No Doubt growing up? Are they fans of yours? What do you dig about their music?
I'm definitely a No Doubt fan. I'm not sure how much of our music they know but they have said they like us. I need no further explanation than that! There's no one thing to like about them. They all bring so much to the table
Did you ever go through a ska phase in the '90s, or was that a little before your time?
The whole ska thing was just barely before my time but I still managed to get into Reel Big Fish, The Impossibles and older No Doubt at a certain point. Josh (Farro, guitar) really loved The Mighty Mighty Bosstones.
No Doubt is one of the bigger female-fronted rock acts of the past 25 years. Who are some women in rock you look up to?
I don't have a lot of female role models. Gwen Stefani is definitely someone to look up to ... but growing up I just didn't see any famous women and think, "I want to be like that!" Although, I did really like TLC.
Are you tired of these questions? A ton of people have already made the obvious No Doubt-Paramore parallels, and the central theme seems to be, "Their singer is a woman." Does that bum you out?
It's a shallow comparison but nothing that I thought we'd avoid. It's a given and I'm okay with that. After all, a No Doubt comparison is one of the best.
Lightning round! Tenacious D or Flight of the Conchords?
Tenacious D 'cause I'm O.G.
TV show (past or present) you wish they'd turn into a movie? And who would you cast in it?
Freaks and Geeks with all-original cast.
What's a YouTube video that makes you laugh?
Kittens inspired by Kittens on YouTube. (tinyurl.com/d88a58)
It's old but another one of my favourites :)
