During this month, I decided to start this project since I haven't done a Pokémon related article in a year as I have been very busy by making articles for Maya the Bee and I have done so many screen time articles relating to that specific series, but for Pokémon, Ι won't make articles about all episodes from the original anime series but only some episodes that featured my favorite supporting/recurring characters. This is one of the episodes that happened during the Indigo League which is where Ash meets Ritchie and they immediately became very good friends and together they had helped free all the Pokémon that Team Rocket had stolen, but after they got back to the stadium, they found out that they will battle in the next round and they looked at each other with anxiety and surprise that they did not expect that they were also rivals at the end. Here are the ranking results that I have gotten for each character who have appeared in the episode:
19. Weezing (4 seconds)
Well yes, James' Weezing was the Pokémon who got the least screen time out of all other Pokémon who were featured in the episode because he only appeared in the scene where James ordered him to use the "Smog" attack to prevent other trainers from following them as they got back into their van and drove off at the end and that's why he fell to the last place though.
18. Officer Jenny (5 seconds)
Yes, various Officer Jenny(s) had only appeared for 5 seconds in the scene where they were driving various cars along with Misty, Togepi, Brock, Professor Oak, Ash's mother and other people who came to see if Ash and Ritchie were okay and if all the Pokémon were freed by them before giving them back to their trainers at the end.
17. Arbok (21 seconds)
While Arbok may have gotten more screen time than Weezing did, but he didn't make it in more than 21 seconds because he couldn't attack Pikachu and Sparky when they used their "Agility" attack that caused him to get dizzy and he ended up getting defeated by their "Thunderbolt" attack and that's why he was so low in the list though.
16. Happy/Ritchie's Butterfree (21 seconds)
Yes, Happy has around the same screen time as Jessie's Arbok, but the reason why I decided to put it to the sixteenth place because I believed that Arbok was paralyzed enough by both Pikachu's "Thunderbolt" attack that he couldn't beat it and was saved by Sparky as he was another Pokémon owned by Ritchie. Happy was only seen in the scene where Ritchie called it to fly out of the van and ordered it to use its "Whirlwind" attack to keep him and his other Pokémon from falling to the ground and was safe at the end.
15. Pidgeotto (22 seconds)
Just like Happy the Butterfree, Ash's Pidgeotto was only seen in the scene where Ash also called him to fly out out of the van and ordered him to use his "Whirlwind" attack (which Ritchie had given the solution to him to do it) to keep him and his other Pokémon from falling to the ground and was also safe at the end.
14. Zippo/Ritchie's Charmander (34 seconds)
Well yes, Zippo is another Pokémon owned by Ritchie who have gotten some screen time and have managed to beat out Ash's Pidgeotto by 34 seconds and he was first seen when Ritchie called him out of his Pokéball to destroy the wall in the van by using his "Slash" attack and he succeeded, but Ritchie didn't use him to battle Team Rocket, but rather than using Sparky against them though.
13. Sparky/Ritchie's Pikachu (41 seconds)
And of course, Sparky the Pikachu was the one who have gotten the most screen time out all of Ritchie's Pokémon, but unlike Ash's Pikachu, Sparky was inside of his Pokéball when Ritchie caught him prior to the events of this episode and he used him to fight Jessie's Arbok with Ash's Pikachu helping him to defeat Arbok together and caused Team Rocket to blast off with their "Thunderbolt" attack at the end.
12. Bulbasaur (50 seconds)
And of course, Ash's Bulbasaur surprisingly have gotten more screen time and have managed to beat out all of Ritchie's Pokémon by 50 seconds, but he failed to make it to 1 minute of screen time though. He was first seen when Ash called him out of his Pokéball after Pikachu helped him to find his Pokéballs and ordered him to use various attacks to destroy the wall, but he failed before Ritchie called Zippo to destroy it at the end. Just like Zippo the Charmander, Ash didn't use him to fight against Jessie's Arbok and used his Pikachu instead.
11. Delia/Ash's mother (1 minute, 29 seconds)
And finally we have a character who isn't a Pokémon who have managed to be ranked higher in the list and that is Ash's mother (aka Delia Ketchum), but she didn't make it to the top 10 though, but she is the first character who have managed to make it to 1 minute of screen time. She appeared with Professor Oak to surprise Ash after he won 4 rounds in the league and she prepared to cook food for him and his friends in a restaurant for them all to eat together and her son told her that she is the best cook in the world as he ate with joy and she was very happy with what her son said. She stayed with Oak, Misty, Togepi and Brock when Ash and Ritchie went to see what Team Rocket was up to until they finally decided to go in a car driven by an Officer Jenny to find out if they were okay and she was glad that her son was okay in the end.
10. Professor Oak (1 minute, 43 seconds)
And now we have the first character who have managed to make it to the top 10 and that is of course Prof. Oak who have managed to get more screen time than Ash's mother did. In this episode, he told Ash that if he wins the next round, he would need to use 6 Pokémon in the other rounds, but he asked him which Pokémon he will choose in the next rounds, but Ash answered him that he needs to see before deciding as he wasn't sure about it though, so yes, he was there to help him with the choices of his Pokémon that he will use in the next Pokémon battles.
9. Togepi (1 minute, 45 seconds)
Now this is something that will surprise you a bit, but yes, Misty's Togepi surprisingly has managed to beat out Oak by 45 seconds of screen time. Well, it usually has around the same screen time as Misty after it hatched in the episode "Who Gets to Keep Togepi?", but there is a scene where Misty didn't carry it in her arms and that's why it didn't have the same screen time as its trainer.
8. Misty (1 minute, 52 seconds)
Well yes, Misty was the one who got the least screen time out of Ash's traveling companions in this episode and she was too close to make it to 2 minutes of screen time, but unfortunately, she didn't make it though.
7. Brock (2 minutes, 8 seconds)
And of course, Brock was the first one who have managed to make it to 2 minutes of screen time by beating out everyone who were ranked lower than him, but he is still not that high in the ranking list though.
6. Meowth (2 minutes, 42 seconds)
Yes, Meowth was the one who got the least screen time out of Team Rocket trio and was too close to make it to 3 minutes of screen time, but he got beaten out by everyone (including Jessie and James) who were ranked higher than him, so that's why he didn't make it to the top 5 though.
5. James (3 minutes, 45 seconds)
And here we have the first character who have managed to make it to the top 5 and to 3 minutes of screen time and that is of course James who have managed to get so many screen time along with Jessie to avenge Meowth's defeat from the "twerps", but he and Jessie have failed to take the top spot, but he is happy that Jessie helped him and Meowth together to steal more screen time from everyone, but they still failed at the end.
4. Pikachu (3 minutes, 54 seconds)
Now this is something that will surprise you a lot, but yes, Ash's Pikachu has failed to make it to the top 3 due to him being absent for a few scenes after Team Rocket managed to catch him and put him in the bag with the other Pokémon they stole from all the trainers who tricked them with their disguise and put the bag in the van as they drove off at the end. So yes, Pikachu got beaten out by one of his enemies, but I don't think it's the first time that had happened to him as he got beaten out by one of TR trio in some other older episodes before this one though.
3. Jessie (3 minutes, 57 seconds)
Now this is something that will make all Team Rocket fans happy is that Jessie has managed to enter the top 3 by beating/knocking out Ash's Pikachu by a few seconds (to take the third place) and was about to make it to 4 minutes of screen time, but she failed and stuck at 3 minutes just like James did, but she did this to avenge both James and Meowth for their defeat, but she is very happy that she has managed to beat out Pikachu for once in this episode though.
2. Ritchie (7 minutes, 32 seconds)
And of course, Ritchie has managed to get so many screen time after he met Ash and his friends and he decided to follow Ash to stop Team Rocket from stealing Pokémon from all the trainers and they managed to defeat them together to give the stolen Pokémon back to their trainers in the end and he took the second place to earn his first medal as a reward from helping Ash to defeat Team Rocket together.
1. Ash (9 minutes, 38 seconds)
As many people have probably expected, Ash was the one who have gotten the most screen time out of all characters by taking the top spot as we all know that he is the main protagonist and the protagonists tend to have more screen time than any character from their particular show and he did this to avenge his Pikachu's defeat with Ritchie's help and support for him and his Pokémon as he was not happy that Jessie surprisingly managed to beat him out and took his place which is why he managed to get more screen time to defeat Team Rocket at the end though.
And that's all of the results that I got from this episode and I'm planning to test the screen time of characters in the follow-up episode where Ash and Ritchie battled each other in the league which I will explain more about that episode in the article that I will make soon.
