I can't though. I keep trying to cry and it won't. I look at sad things and still no tears. I think happy things and still nothing

That's what I do. I have depression problems sometimes but when I'm with people I love and they love me and support me, it really helps. I also tell myself it's okay. It helps.

Crying is a big help, so is moderate exercise. If you've been feeling this bad for two weeks (which is the time frame given for diagnosing clinical depression), then you might need to seek medical help. If it's a matter of having had a couple of low days, then sometimes you just have to wait it out. The others here have given great advice: try to connect with friends, even if you don't feel like it, listen to music you love, or focus on the things that make you happy. It will pass.

No. How about almost a month? (2/21/12 - 3/19/12) <-------Length of depression

If you've been feeling this bad for a month, is it possible to see a doctor to get a firm diagnosis? In the meantime, you can check out Web MD and cross reference your symptoms to the ones listed. That won't help you to feel better, but you'll be more informed when you see a doctor.

I really don't know of any cure to depression. I think different things work for different people. For me, I listened to my favorite songs, took long walks to clear my head, wrote in a journal, etc. Somewhere along the line, I started to feel better. You should just try to find things that make you feel a little better. Take it one step at a time. And if things don't get better, you should talk to someone. If you don't think you can talk to your family/friends, talk to a therapist. It helps.

And whatever you do, don't use food or alcohol as a way to cope with your depression. Take it from someone who's been there, it doesn't help at all. It just makes things worse.

It's ok to cry when you need to. If you have other friends who knew your friend, spend time with them. Talk and remember the good times. Give yourself time to heal. It may take a bit of time, but it does get better. I'm sure your friend would want you to be happy. Whenever you need to talk, find a friend or family member. If nothing else, I'm sure there are others besides myself on fp who be willing to listen. Take care of yourself.
