How do I like or reply to a comment now?

With every video on the new YouTube, most of the comments have no buttons to like them or reply to them. There are a lot that I really want to like or reply to but there seems to be no way now.

That does seem like the only way. I don't think it actually alerts them though.

Same here with me, I will admit, I do not like the decision of the Google+ connection to YouTube in order to comment on videos because you can't reply to legacy comments and you also can't up vote or down vote any of them either and that sucks, I have this problem too! XP
The only thing I like about this decision is that I can type as many character letters than before. :)
