Amy Schumer's also not going to play a teenage-version of Barbie. Here's a synopsis:
Schumer will play a character who lives in Barbieland, among all of the various Barbie characters beloved by doll collectors (there are dolls covering over 180 careers). In a fish-out-of-water story reminiscent of films like Splash and Big, Schumer’s Barbie gets kicked out, basically because she’s not perfect enough, is a bit eccentric and doesn’t quite fit the mold. She then goes on an adventure in the real world and by the time she returns to Barbieland to save it, she has gained the realization that perfection comes on the inside, not the outside, and that the key to happiness is belief in oneself, free of the obligation to adhere to some unattainable standard of perfection. Mattel, with a lot at stake since the toyline has generated $3 billion in sales, signed off on the take.

So her casting does make sense to a certain extent. (Not defending it by any means, I don't like Amy).
Honestly, that synopsis doesn't say anything about Barbie not being a teenager, so I'm still unconvinced. And this looks like another stupid attempt by Sony to preach their version of feminism a la Ghostbusters, "Barbie is so fake, but our take on Barbie is ~special~! This Barbie is realistic and down to earth and imperfect! She's not like the other girls!" and this is just a load of bull because when was Barbie ever about perfection? The whole 'Barbie is soo perfect' shtick was a label that mainstream media slapped on her. How can you make a movie about a franchise when you get the very premise of the franchise so, so damn wrong?
Again, I hope it flops, as it should. I don't need this type of SJW pandering.
Sony has made a big mistake, only pandering to feminists. They should learnt from their mistakes. A lot of people are saying that Amy is vulgar and unfunny. I have watched her interviews and she does make a lot of sex jokes, she's not the barbie I would've liked for this movie. Initially they wanted to make a "mary poppins" type barbie who helps others using the skills she has learnt from all her different careers. Now that would've been a much better movie and everyone would've been happy.
This seems like a blatant attempt to be "socially progressive" and "feminist" just like they did with ghostbusters. Oh well, i really hope sony changes their mind after the negative reaction this has received.
Her being skinny or wearing pink doesn't make her all femine and no brain, that's BS. If Sony's casted Amy just for showing that they wanna show people a real side and be feminazi than that's really lame.
This movie sounds like it goes against everything we have known about Barbie. All those inspiring, uplifting stuff about overcoming obstacles and doing what you love? All that girl power stuff? None of that seems to be reflected in this movie. Like I said, I don't need a goddamn third-wave feminism propaganda shoved down my throat, and it amazes me that Mattel actually let this happen.
